Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Happy Monday everyone!

Today we remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He was a tremendous civil rights leader and is truly missed.

Those of you who have the day off, enjoy! I’ve got the day off, so I’m taking full advantage and soaking it all up.

THANK YOU to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We are still fighting the good fight and wish you were here.

Have a great day everyone! Happy MLK Day!

Happy Friday + 3-Day Weekend

We made it through another work week! Super excited because we also get a 3-day weekend!!!! YAY!!! My poor hubby has to work on Monday, which is a total bummer. But I can’t help my excitement for having the day off!! Feeling just like Snoopy right about now.

For some Friday fun, if you haven’t seen the Adele & James Corden Carpool Karaoke video you MUST! It’s fabulous! I absolutely LOVE Adele and this video proves even more why I thinks she’s fabulous. Hope you enjoy.

Happy Friday everyone and I hope those of you who have a 3-day weekend enjoy every moment of it! See you next week!

Paint Nite: Round 3 🍹🎨🍷

Happy Thursday everyone! I’m so glad that it’s almost Friday and the weekend is fast approaching!

Last night my co-workers and I did another Paint Nite and it was so much fun! This was our second time going as a group (but my third time doing Paint Nite) and we had a blast! You can read about our previous night of too many drinks and painting here.

We went to happy hour first at Billy Berk’s and then headed over to The Blue Chip to get our paint on! After a few drinks and way too many appetizers we were ready to get painting! Last nights painting was an “abstract” cityscape that was so much fun to paint. This time instead of mixing green, orange, and purple on our pallet, we did it right on the canvas! Later we got to splatter paint all over it too.

Here’s a collage of the progression of my painting. We started with what looked like buildings, then blended them down the canvas, added paint splatter everywhere and ended by adding the white building outlines and windows. Pretty cool right?!

Of course we had to take a bunch of pictures to document our fun time! I just love these girls!

Here we are with our finished masterpieces! They all look so good! One of the things I love about Paint Nite is that everyone interprets the painting in a different way. We all add our own artistic touch and style. In the end, they come out totally different and very unique! Thanks ladies for another FABULOUS night!! Cheers! Can’t wait for our next activity! 🍹🎨🍷

If you haven’t done a Paint Nite, I highly recommend you do one. They are so fun! I love that in my office I now how three different paintings I’ve created 🙂

And since I never posted about my second Paint Nite I did with my work wife and our hubbies, here’s a #tbt to when we went back in December.

Hope you all have a great rest of your week! I’m excited we’re almost there and that Oscar 2016 nominations are out!

It was also incredible sad to hear the passing of Alan Rickman. He was a tremendous actor and was in so many fabulous movies that I love. I’ve seen so many wonderful tributes to him, but I have to say that I loved this one the best. In memory of Alan Rickman: every Severus Snape scene in chronological order. If you love Harry Potter, get your tissues ready.

RIP Alan Rickman…you will be greatly missed!

“When I’m 80 years old and sitting in my rocking chair, I’ll be reading Harry Potter. And my family will say to me, ‘After all this time?’ And I will say, ‘Always.'” -Alan Rickman

Weekend Update: Movies

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend are are ready for another work week. I sure could use another day (or two), but alas it’s back to work.

This weekend ended up being all about MOVIES!!! Friday night we went and saw  The Revenant.

Oh goodness was this movie INTENSE! Probably not the most ideal Friday-night-date-night movie, but still this one is a must see! Overall,  I thought it was really good. There were a ton of stunning nature scenes that were just breathtaking! You felt like you were actually IN the forest feeling snowflakes fall on your head. The sound editing was also fantastic! Just like you felt a part of the forest, it also sounded like you were really there. When it was snowing you could hear each snowflake hit the ground. Or water running in a river, it was clear, loud, and vivid like you were standing at that river. The visuals and sound editing were truly incredible!

The Revenant is intense, and at times there is a lot violence. It can get pretty gruesome; but remember this movie takes place in the 1820’s and is about a frontiersman on a fur trading expedition who has to fight for survival…so we are dealing with lots of elements here.

It’s definitely not a “happy/cheerful” movie, but visually,  it was wonderful! Not to mention it has Leonardo DiCaprio and  Tom Hardy, both quite handsome! I really thought Leonardo DiCaprio was stupendous in this movie and if he doesn’t win an Oscar for this role, I don’t know what he has to do to win one!

The Revenant did pretty well last night at the Golden Globes, so here’s hoping it does well at the Oscars!

Best Motion Picture – Drama
“The Revenant”

Best Director – Motion Pciture
Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“The Revenant”)

Best actor in a Motion Picture – Drama
Leonardo DiCaprio (“The Revenant”)

Leo, this is YOUR year!!!

On Sunday we went to an early morning showing of Star Wars: The Force AwakensMV5BOTAzODEzNDAzMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwMDU1MTgzNzE@._V1_SY317_CR0,0,214,317_AL_

Another fantastic movie! I was a little hesitant about seeing this one because I’m not really the biggest Star Wars fan (I know!), but this movie had me on the edge of my seat! I loved it! My hubby really loves Star Wars, so he was pretty excited to see it! He looked like a little kid on Christmas morning with his face all lit up. So cute!

I have seen a few of the movies (thanks to him), but not all of them. Our original plan was to watch Episode 1-6 and then go see the newest movie, but the hubby just got too anxious to wait. I’m glad we went, because now I am kinda hooked and want to watch the whole story.  Also, I’m happy to report that we have now watched Episode 1-3 and will continue with the rest. I’m very intrigued by the story and can’t wait to see how everything unfolds. We also want to see The Force Awakens again already hehe!

And who could resit this guy?!?!? BB8-Fathead.png

I loved BB-8 for some reason…man I’m such a sucker for these types of characters haha. I also couldn’t wait to see if R2D2 and C-3PO made an appearance!

This weekend also including going to a couples baby shower, having dinner with my parents and doing the usual errands/market/laundry etc. this weekend. What did you all do? Anyone else go to the movies?

Hope you all have a great week! I’m looking forward to Paint Nite later this week with my coworkers and of course watching The Bachelor tonight! Thanks for reading!

TGIF…We Made It

Man, this first week back to work after the holiday break was brutal. Agreed? Everyone at our house (including the pups Emma & Dash) had a hard time adjusting back to the work-week-routine. I think we all got pretty used to sleeping in and relaxing during the break…having to get up early again was a little hard.

This is totally how I feel today. Happy dance! Happy dance! Happy dance! YES, I am certainly SMILING since it’s finally FRIDAY!!! Waaahoooo!!! I don’t even care (well I do a little) that we have a staff meeting this afternoon at work haha.

What’s everyone up too this weekend? Any fun plans? I think we (in CA) will be getting more rain which is awesome! On Saturday we are going to a couples baby shower (I have another one next weekend!) and that’s about it. I’m looking forward to just relaxing after a hard first week back. TGIF everyone and happy weekend! Hope it’s wonderful and we’ll see you next week!

New Year’s Resolutions

Happy 2016, friends!! Hope you all had an amazing start to the year. I can’t believe we are already through the holidays and into a new year! Time is already flying by.

I stuck to most of the resolutions I made last year…most of the them I said hehe. All that matters is that I tried. You can read about my previous resolutions here 2015 & 2014.

Here is my list for 2016:

1. Read 12 books.

Last year I completely “failed” this resolution. I set a  goal of reading 20 books and ended up with only 3…haha. I made an effort, that’s all that counts. This year there are no excuses! I love to read and really should get back into it. This year I plan to start with a smaller goal, 12 books.  I have a ton of stuff that I want to read, so getting 12 books read shouldn’t be too difficult.

2. Continue my meditation practice.

Meditation has become a HUGE part of my life and something that I do every day. I’m getting close to my one year of meditating (February 6th to be exact) so that’s something that I am really looking forward too. I hope to continue the idea of “letting go” especially of worries, stress and things that are not in my control. I still think I spend far too much time worrying and stressing over things (although this has greatly improved!). I’m constantly working towards finding myself more through my practice and being more present. Meditation is absolutely wonderful and has added so much to my life! ❤

3. Keep a daily gratitude journal (again)

I’ve been keeping a daily gratitude journal since 2013. I really enjoy doing this throughout the year and think it helps me feel more grounded and able to be more present in everyday life.

4. Keep in touch with old and new friends. Make the TIME to see people; do things with them; and have fun! Say YES to what makes me happy and NO to things that don’t.

5. Go to Jazzercise at least 3x a week!

This year I gotta do it; NO excuses! The studio that’s close to my house actually offers classes Monday-Thursday and then on both Saturday/Sunday. I think I can make it in at least 3x a week for sure! 🙂

6. WRITE, no seriously!

Last year writing was one of my resolutions and I was planning on using this awesome book 642 Things to Write About. Sadly, I never opened it. 😦 I’m going to keep blogging (because I love it) and plan to crack open this book and start writing! There are already a few ideas in my head for possible children books, so who knows! Maybe this is the year that I actually write something. Here goes nothing!

Lastly, I just love the below quote and the “ultimate list”! I plan to do a lot of the things on that list, because why not! I also want to remember that really, all I have to do is my best. There is no judgement and I’m doing these “resolutions” for ME!

What resolutions have you set for yourself this year??

There you have it folks; my resolutions for 2016. I’m ready to take on 2016 and make it the best year yet!

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Wishing you all LOVE, HEALTH, HAPPINESS and PEACE in 2016!

Happy New Year! 🍾🍾

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Cheers to 2016!! 🍾🍾

In years past, we have gone to big NYE parties in San Francisco. Unfortunately, this year the guy who usually throws the parties couldn’t secure a location!! This was a big surprise and a total bummer. We have gone to these parties for the past three years, always look forward to them, and have an absolute blast every single time. I was really hoping to expand our group of partygoers this year, but with no party that didn’t work out. Here’s hoping that next year we will get to go because it’s always so much fun! You can ready about our previous party fun here.
Instead of trying to find another big NYE party in San Francisco or somewhere else, we decided to have a more low key New Year’s. This year we hosted a New Year’s party at her house and still managed to have a really great time. Guests included: Jenny, Glenn and their adorable baby Violet, Dan and Jess, Caitlin, and Eva. Yay!! We ordered a bunch of pizzas, had yummy appetizers and drank plenty of champagne (my favorite)!! 🍾🍾

It’s funny how you get older the more difficult it is to actually make it to midnight…I think most of us were probably ready to go to bad around 11pm, but we made it to midnight!!! We even stay up after until about 2 AM just talking and having a good time.

The McConnell residence was full that night, as everyone decided to spend the night. I loved hosting our NYE party and having a house full of overnight guests. Yay for adult sleep overs!

Here are some fabulous pictures from our PAR-TAY!! Violet was a huge hit and both pups were excellent hosts!

So glad to have Eva from Santa Barbara and my freshman roomie Cait with us! I love this girls so much! Can you believe we have stayed friends for all these years? Love you girls!

Couldn’t imagine ringing in the New Year with anyone else. Love these peeps so much and feel very grateful for their friendship!

Hope you all had a wonderful evening filled with friends, family and plenty of champagne. Here’s to a brand-new year, one that I hope is filled with love, peace, health, prosperity, and happiness! Wishing you all a fabulous New Year! All best for 2016!! 🍾🍾
