Happy First Day of Fall 🍃🍁🍂 & Happy Names Day to Me! 🇱🇻

Happy Thursday everyone! Today is an extra special day because it’s not only the FIRST DAY OF FALL, but it’s also my NAMES DAY!!!

🍃🍁🍂 HAPPY FIRST DAY OF FALL EVERYONE!!! 🍃🍁🍂

Fall is by far my absolute favorite time of the year! Unfortunately, we are still having pretty warm weather here in San Jose, CA. This weekend is supposed to be 93+…ugh that doesn’t feel like fall at all. I’m ready for boots, scarves, pumpkins, cool/crispy weather, baking and enjoying the “change in seasons” (not that we get much in CA). Excited either way to be entering the fall season. I love everything about it!

Next up, my NAMES DAY!  🇱🇻 🇱🇻

Daudz Laimes Vārda Dienā man!

That’s Latvian for HAPPY NAMES DAY TO ME! According to the Latvian calendar, September 22 is my names day! Last year I did a blog post all about being Latvian and my names day. Check it out here.

Growing up (especially with Latvian grandparents) celebrating our names day was a really big deal. It’s days like today that I really miss my Latvian grandparents. I also especially miss my Grammi’s klingeris (or yellow bread as we called it). Klingeris a is a saffron-scented bread made of yeast dough with dried fruits and almond slices on top that is often shaped into a figure eight and decorated with flowers. My Dad and sister Ari have been making yellow bread and last year was probably the closest they have ever gotten to it tasting just like Grammi’s. So delicious!

Love this! Ha Ha

Hope you all have a great day!

Blog Update with Pictures 3:3

Hi friends! I’m back with my LAST installment of pictures and updates! I tried to get them all done yesterday but just couldn’t do it, so lets finish today! Here’s 3 of 3!

This last update is all about CONCERTS! We were really lucky to see a bunch of shows this summer. I think you all know which one was my favorite! 😉

ADELE 7.30.16

Hands down absolutely one of the greatest performers and shows I’ve ever seen. Adele KILLED IT! OMG so totally fabulous!

We totally LUCKED out in being able to go to this show. Last fall a bunch of us in my office tried to get tickets. Unfortunately only one person was able to get 4 tickets and there were 6 of us who wanted to go. I was so bummed :(.

Fast forward to the week before the show and we got 2 tickets!!! 🙂 🙂 The coworker who got the the only tickets in the office ended up not being able to go, so we had the chance to buy her tickets! Waaahooo!!!! Chris and I were beyond EXCITED to have scored tickets! I’ll be honest, I had no idea what to expect from Adele. We are used to seeing big, full bands like Ben Harper, Jack Johnson or DMB. Adele BLEW US AWAY!

Chris and I went to the concert with my other co-worker Lilly and her husband Chris. Chris X2. The four of us had an absolute BLAST! And ADELE was freaking AMAZING!!!! That girl not only can sing (well duh!), but she’s hilarious as hell and such an entertainer. We couldn’t stop laughing and belting out each of her songs! Such a fabulous show and with such great company!

P.S. Our hubby’s are huge Adele fans now and at least in my house, Chris is still blasting her music! 🙂

Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals 8.16.16

Hubby got us FREE tickets to see Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga. We’ve never been to Mountain Winery, but let me tell you that place is PERFECT for a concert! I love outdoor venues and this one is top notch with fantastic acoustics! It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Ben Harper and he didn’t disappoint. Another great show and fun weekday date night! ❤img_6231

Dave Matthews Band 8.29.16 & 8.30.16

TWO NIGHTS OF DAVE MATTHEWS BAND!!!! ❤ 🙂 ❤ 🙂 ❤ HIGHLIGHT of the summer and probably my life (ha ha ha ha). Dave Mathews Band is my favorite band of all time and I absolutely love seeing shows at the Greek! If you’ve never been to a show at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA you seriously have to go! Like the Mountain Winery, it too is an outdoor amphitheater, but I have to say the Greek is my favorite! There isn’t a bad seat in the house and don’t even get me start on the acoustics!

DMB is my favorite band and I’ve been seeing these guys since 2002 when I was in high school. My bestie, Ashley and I have been seeing them since then as well. Each year I look forward to going to their show with her. I think there is only one summer that the band didn’t tour, so we didn’t seem them together. Heck my blog is even a lyric from one of my favorite DMB songs!

Two Step
“Celebrate we will
Because life is short but sweet for
certain”

This summer marked the bands 25th Anniversary and man did they put on an awesome show! Night #1 was history making in my book. My goal every year is to get as close to the stage as possible. Well this year folks, THAT HAPPENED!!!! We were literally ONE row behind the very first row. I about DIED! DREAM COME TRUE!

Last year Chris and I became Warehouse members in hopes of scoring better seats to some of the DMB shows. Although we didn’t get special seats for the Greek (it’s all general admission) we did get to line up in a special line just for Warehouse members. In addition, we got to buy t-shirts/other concert stuff before the venue was open and enter the venue 30-45 minutes before everyone else. Talk about some unanticipated perks! Being able to get in so early made a HUGE difference because we got front row seats! Poor Ashley; we had to leave her in the regular line, but saved her some pretty sweet seats up front. Her boyfriend joined us later and the four of us had a great time! You can read about some of our other DMB concerts adventures from 2015 and 2014.

The set list from night #1 probably wasn’t my most favorite, but I love DMB anyway and love it when they jam out! It was amazing to be so close to stage and really SEE the band. We actually got to HEAR them, not just hear them through the speakers somewhere else in the venue. It was unbelievable!! Ahhhh such a cool experience! Check out these awesome pictures!

DMB Night #2 8.30.16 We went back for a second night!!!

Funny story, Rashawn Ross, the trumpet player for DMB lives in the same building as my cousin in LA! She knows that we are huge DMB fans so she always tries to get us tickets if she can. Guess what?! This year we got tickets!!!!!! Rashawn got us FREE tickets for night #2 AND special passes!!! We had no idea what the passes were, but super excited to be getting anything! Rashawn totally didn’t have to do that for us. We got to pick everything up at will call under the “artist guest list” sounds pretty fancy right?! 😉 Ahhh so cool! The special passes ended up being for the DMB Friends & Family Lounge which allowed us to go to a backstage area and have free food, drinks and snacks before the concert. Yes please! I was hoping that we would get to meet someone from the band, but that didn’t happen. We did see Tim Reynolds through a gate though. Does that count? He he he.

I have to say that the set list for night #2 was pretty epic! The concert was absolutely amazing and probably on my top list of best concerts ever! The band was just killing it and rocking out like no other! Not to mention the song selection! Although we weren’t able to get to the concert as early as we did the night before, we felt pretty stoked to have free tickets and special passes. We also managed to get great seats (not as close) but honestly, there isn’t a bad seat at the Greek. The DMB Friends & Family Lounge was totally unexpected and lots of fun. Another amazing night seeing my favorite band and a great way to wrap up our summer concerts! Looking forward to more DMB concerts and one day meeting Dave Matthews in PERSON! #lifetimegoals #itwillhappen

Ok friends, that’s a wrap (FINALLY) on my picture updates! Hope you’ve enjoyed.

Blog Update with Pictures: 2 of 3

Hi friends! I’m back with more pictures and updates! My goal is to get these last two posts on the blog today so here we go…2 of 3!

UCSB All Gaucho Reunion 4.29-5.1.16

Olé.., Olé, Olé, Olé

Gauchos, Gauchos!

gauchos

As many of you know, everyone in my family went to UCSB for college. Yes, that’s right we ALL went to UCSB; Mom, Dad, me and my sister Ari. The Gacuho line is very strong in our family haha. I also have an uncle and cousin who went there as well and Ari and I both met our significant others at UCSB. We both married these UCSB boys so the tradition of an all Gaucho family is continuing on!

Every year UCSB holds an alumni weekend that they call the All Gaucho Reunion. We’ve actually never gone down to Santa Barbara specifically for the All Gaucho Reunion. But this year we decided we just had to go because it has been 10 years since we’ve graduated from UCSB! Holy cow! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years! Where has the time gone?!?!

We ended up not participating in any the All Gaucho Reunion events. Instead, we just did our own thing during the alumni weekend with some friends who joined us on the trip. Of course we had to visit campus, purchase lots of stuff from the bookstore and hang out in our old stomping grounds Isla Vista! I love this definition of Isla Vista from urban dictionary. Ha Ha Ha it is in fact “an almost too-good-to-be-true college student playground nestled in fabulous Santa Barbara.” We ❤ IV!

No trip to Santa Barbara is complete without visiting our favorite places such as UCSB, SB Mission, State St., the beach and of course  eating at some of our favorite places: Arigato-best sushi EVER, Daily Grind and of course FREEBIRDS.

I always feel so nostalgic when visiting beautiful Santa Barbara. That’s where I spent 4 years going to college and 2 more years working as a professional at UCSB. That’s where I made some of the best friends I have today and where I fell in love. It also happens to be the place where we got married and somewhere I hope to retire too someday. Santa Barbara and UCSB will always have a very special place in my heart! Proud to be a Gaucho and to have graduated from the best UC around!

GAUCHOS FOR LIFE!

Nisha’s Baby Shower 5.21.16

I had the pleasure of co-hosting one of my best friends baby shower! Nisha and I met when we both lived on the same floor of the San Miguel (5th floor) residence hall freshman year of college. We’ve been close friends ever since.

Love planning parties/celebrations for people, but this was my first baby shower. Luckily I had some help from Nisha’s mom. Everything came together so well and the elephant theme couldn’t have been any cuter! Check out my Pinterst page for your own ideas. Loved being able to create such a cute and fun shower for one of my dearest friends!

In 2014 I hosted her bridal shower (you can read about that here) and also had the honor of being a part of her wedding! Nisha is one of the sweetest people I know and someone who I feel so lucky to have as a friend. She and her hubby Simon are going to be and already are the most amazing parents! They welcomed their sweet baby boy ASHER AOYAMA on August 25, 2016 in NYC. I can’t wait to meet their new little man soon. ❤

Giants Game with Dad 7.29.16

Happy belated Father’s Day to my Dad! This year Chris and I got the three of us tickets to a Giants game! Waaahoooo! GO GIANTS!

One thing my Dad loves is BASEBALL so this was the perfect belated present. We had a blast riding the train to AT&T Park and rooting for our San Francisco Giants! Thank goodness I didn’t marry a Dodgers fan haha.

Happy Belated Father’s Day Dad! We LOVE you!

DISNEYLAND 8.12.16

LAST Disneyland celebration for the big 60th diamond celebration! So glad that we got to squeeze a Disney trip into our busy summer/start of the school year. Chris and I both LOVE all things Disney! We used to have season passes when we were both living in Southern California…oh how I miss those passes.

Disneyland is one of those places that I will always just LOVE! I can’t get enough of it! There really is something that’s just so magical about that place. No matter when we go, who we are with or how long we are at the park, we always have a great day! This quick day trip was filled with lots of fun, laughs, minor terror/stress (hubby made me ride Tower of Terror), lots of water (it was pretty warm), endless rides on Big Thunder Mountain (it’s my favorite ride and the wildest ride in the wilderness!) and of course plenty of churros!

At the end of the day, I can’t imagine spending 15+ hours and 25,937 steps with anyone other than my best friend/love Chris (Tof)! We always have so much  fun together and I know we will always make time for trips to Disneyland!

A big THANK YOU to Chris’ moms neighbor Amy who hooked us up with the park hopper tickets! She works for Disney and knows how much we love going to the park. Any time she gets the chance, Amy gets us tickets. THANKS AMY for helping us have a truly magical and wonderful day at the Happiest Place on Earth!

To view our other trips to Disney, check out posts from 2015 and 2014.

P.S. We hope to make it back to the park one more time this year to see everything all decked out for Halloween. We both love Halloween so what could be better?!

Ok that’s a wrap for my second series of blog updates. Hope you enjoyed!

Blog Update with Pictures: 1 of 3

Hello friends! I’ve been horribly behind in posting to my blog. Things have just been too busy. Since so much as happened over the last five months I decided to do an update with PICTURES! Hopefully this will keep things a little on the shorter side and more fun. Just a heads up, there will be a total of three posts for this series. Although they may not be in chronological order, they are organized by theme.

This first one is all about my sister ARIANA! She’s had a really busy few months and a great year because she got MARRIED!

Ok here we go…1 of 3 starting now!

Ari’s SoCal Bridal Shower 4.9.16

This shower was hosted by Ari’s college bestie, Joleen at the lovely Aroma Coffee & Tea in LA. Aroma is one of Ari’s favorite places to go to when she’s in LA visiting. Although it was a rather gloomy/rainy day, we made the best of it and had an absolute blast showering Ari with gifts and lots of love! It was wonderful to spend more time with Brian’s mom Sharon along with her friends and family. A bunch of Ari’s college friends from UCSB were also in attendance along with my cousin Teddie. Joleen did an excellent job hosting this shower and making it special for my sister.

The day of the shower also happened to be our mom’s birthday so HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! What a nice and kind of special way to spend your birthday!

Ari’s NorCal Bridal Shower 4.24.16

Since Ari has so many friends all over CA and around the state, we decided to host two bridal showers for her. One in Socal and one in Norcal. This one was hosted by my mom and I at one of my favorite places, Lovejoy’s Team Room! Ari loves tea, so this was the perfect place to host a tea themed bridal shower! If you’ve never been to Lovejoy’s I highly, highly recommend it! This place has delicious food, an excellent selection of teas, and the most cozy ambiance.

Something that I really love is party planning and throwing celebrations for people! I had a blast creating a Pinterest board for this party along with getting invitations, making favors and putting the whole thing together! The favors were probably one of my favorite ideas. Each person got a specialty tea themed or ring cookie. I ordered the cookies from Sweet 17 Cookies and they turned out exactly how I wanted them. Lindsey was so great to work with and made the most perfect cookies for my sisters shower! I wrapped the cookies up and added Alice in Wonderland “Eat Me” tags to each bag. It was such an honor to throw my little sister her tea themed bridal shower!

Happy Bridal Shower #2 Ari I love you!

Palm Springs Before the Rings: Ari’s Bachelorette Party Weekend 6.10-6.12.16

For Ari’s bachelorette party she requested a weekend with her closest girlfriends in the desert and that’s exactly what she got! Pool. Sun. Floaties. Drinks. Girlfirends. #teambride

02f2bffc-7a4e-4b3f-9da2-96e30c4b6091

We had a blast spending a sunny weekend poolside in Palm Springs celebrating the bride-to-be! During our weekend we stayed at the most perfect place found on Aribnb called The Cottonwood. This property actually has 4 individual units/cottages that all have bedrooms/bathrooms, kitchens/living spaces which then all open up to the POOL! This was perfect for the number of girls that we had over the weekend. Be sure to check out the property. I totally want to get a bunch of friends and go back here!

8a096608-5e2c-4c2d-94e5-d8a6ae4110d6

We sure spoiled Ari with all kinds of gifts, lingerie, tanks, towels and anything pineapple and flamingo themed! I put together goodie bags for each of the girls which included: personal pineapple/flamingo themed tumblers (made by a fellow Gaucho — check out her fabulous etsy shop), earrings, hair ties, flamingo starws and EOS lip balm. Check out the Pinterest page I made for Ari’s bachelorette weekend.

Huge THANK YOU and shout out to Joleen and Megan for helping plan this awesome weekend! It was such a BLAST!

Wedding Rehearsal & Rehearsal Dinner 6.30.16

Ari and Brian had to do their wedding rehearsal a few days before their wedding because Saratoga Springs was totally booked with weddings over the 4th of July holiday weekend. During the rehearsal they both looked a little nervous…thank goodness we still had a few more days until the BIG day! Saratoga Springs is absolutely gorgeous and the perfect place for an outdoor weeding!

img_5796

Dinner was that this cool place in Cupertino called Gochi. It’s a Japanese Fusion Tapas place which was a really fun place for dinner. Ari and Brian are both kind of foodies so this was right up their alley!

Wedding Festivities 7.1-7.2.16

On Friday 7.1.16 all of the bridesmaids had an afternoon of mani/pedis at my favorite salon La Orquidea. Perfect way to relax and get a pampered before the BIG day. Later that night everyone in town was invited to Devil’s Canyon Brewing Co. in San Carlos. On Friday nights Devil’s Canyon has live music and a bunch of food trucks set up out back. How can you go wrong with awesome beers and food trucks?!?!

4ee4e915-8f17-48f1-9c09-a51e00be8e8a

Saturday (day before the wedding) was spent doing last minute prep, flower arranging and getting everything to the hotel in Cupertino. For dinner, the bridal party went to dinner at Aqui before calling it an early night. LAST night before my little sissy gets MARRIED!

 WEDDING DAY 7.3.16

Well 7.3.16 was the BIG day! The day that my not-so-little-sister got MARRIED!!!! Like I mentioned before, Ari and Brian got married at Saratoga Springs. This place was perfect for the two of them and the whole day couldn’t have gone better! Great weather, good food, lots of drinks, dancing and cupcakes from Susie Cakes!

Leading up to the wedding my sister was pretty nervous which then had me pretty nervous. She and Brian are really low-key and laid back people. They wanted their wedding to be like that too and not a huge production. I think their wedding ended up being exactly that. PERFECT and just how they wanted it. Ari and Brian met while in college at UCSB (keeping the Gaucho tradition in our family strong) and are a great match! Their wedding day was filled with so much LOVE and HAPPINESS. I couldn’t be happier or more excited for the two of them! They looked so in their element, free of nerves and totally and completely IN LOVE! Brian has been around for a really long time, so he already feels like apart of our family. Happy to finally have him “officially” as a member of the family and as the one to love my sister for forever.

CONGRATS again Ari and Brain! We are all so very happy and excited for you! LOVE YOU!

P.S. Doesn’t my sister look STUNNING in that dress?!?!?! Wow! Most gorgeous bride ever!

Ok that’s a wrap for this first series of blog updates. Hope you enjoyed!
