Today is my BIRTHDAY!! Waaahhoooo 🎉🎉🎉🎉

I’ll be back next week with a full bday celebration post! So excited to be back in the Bay Area for the weekend though and to be able to celebrate with both my friends and family!

Happy Friday and Chinese New Year!

This is EXACTLY how I feel right about now! It’s been another looooooong week which included one of our dogs, Dash spending 36 hours in the hospital for eating gum…yea that story can be saved for another day.

Found this article to be fun and really interesting. I was born in the year of the rat, what about you all?

Can’t wait to get this 3-day weekend started! We are headed up to the Bay Area to see my family and friends because tomorrow is my BIRTHDAY! Waaahoooo! Can’t wait to get out of SB for a few days! Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and we’ll see ya next week!

Happy Valentine’s Day ❤ ❤

Wishing everyone a day filled with lots of LOVE!

Today marks my 12th Valentine’s Day with my forever Valentine…my wonderful hubby. Tof, I love you more than words can probably every describe. Thank you for always loving me and making me feel so special. You’re the most wonderful man anyone could every ask for and I feel so incredibly lucky to call you my best friend and love of my life!  ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤  Happy Valentine’s Day! Looking forward to dinner tonight; spending time with you and snuggling with our pups!

Today we are also celebrating THREE years with Mr. Dash. You can read all about our Valentine’s Day pup here. Dash is definitely a big love bug and that has stuck since we first got him. Ha Ha Ha. He loves to give kisses and snuggle with his sister Emma and us of course! 😉

Dash is also our little trouble maker. Yesterday he thought it would be fun to celebrate by eating some gum (which apparently has a toxic ingredient to dogs) and spend 24 hours in the doggy hospital. Sigh. It looks like he’s going to be OK, but is still be monitored and having his sugar levels and liver tested. Fingers crossed he continues to do well and that we can pick him up later tonight. We certainly LOVE both of our pups very much!

❤ 2.14.15❤

Look at how little sweet Dash was?!

Handsome big boy!

Happy Mardi Gras! ⚜️💜

Interestingly, the origins of Mardi Gras can be traced to medieval Europe! Check out the history of Mardi Gras here and here.

Loved this 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Mardi Gras article. Some really interesting facts.

Growing up my mom and sister we really into Mardi Gras, especially making King Cake. Apparently, King Cake is only available during the Mardi Gras season and is typically made with brioche dough. The dough is braided and laced with cinnamon and then glazed with purple, green and gold sugar or covered in icing. What really sets King Cake apart from other desserts, however, is the small plastic baby hidden inside. HA HA. Whoever finds the baby in his or her slice must buy/or make the next cake or perhaps host the next party.

I sure do miss my mom and sisters King Cake. Hopefully they are making one this year! To learn more about the history of King Cake, check this article out. You can also find a variety of King Cake recipe’s: #1, #2, #3 and #4. Enjoy!

1095 Days of Meditation 🙏🏻💕

1095 days

2.7.18 💕 🙏 💕

Today I have reached THREE YEARS of MEDITATING! That’s 1095 days in a row! WOW! You can catch up on my meditation journey starting with my first 100 days1000 daysyear #1 and year #2. Today I’m reminded how thankful I am for my practice and for completing three years of meditation. Although I don’t do anything crazy, I still practice every day. In the end, I believe that’s all that really matters. It’s called a practice for a reason. Over the  years I have learned:

  • Awareness — As I meditate, I’ve become aware of the quantitative diversity of my thoughts. And that I have a lot of thoughts. For me it’s all about returning to my tranquil mind, or at least working on making it more tranquil. Through awareness is where I’ve learned to live more in the present moment. Often my thoughts wander and take me away from the synchronized beauty of the present moment, but by continuing to practicing awareness in my meditation, I am brought back to the here and now.

  • Letting Go — This is something I am still very much working on today. By returning to my practice every day, I know I am practicing the act of letting go. Letting go of self judgment and self criticism is hard to do and a constant struggle for me. But in meditation, I’m learning to observe the flow of my thoughts, pleasant or painful and try not to get caught up in them…sometimes easier said than done. 😉

  • Gentleness — Again something I need to continue to practice. I tend to be very hard on myself and I am always working on trying to be more gentle with myself. In a way, taking the time to sit and be with myself in silence has helped me practice kindness, compassion, love, patience, flexibility, and acceptance. Isn’t that what this is all about? I think so!

  • Focus — Each time I return to my practice I really end up with single pointedness = going with the flow. Through meditation I have been able to focus my awareness where I want it to go and have developed my inner experience of being centered. Outside of my practice, I have become more skilled at focusing my energy on thoughts and actions that honor my true nature. Now don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t happen all of the time. I still struggle with being able to stay focused and “let go” of things I can’t control. However, my inner guide has been strengthened through my practice and I am developing more and more inner peace.

  • Increased Spiritual Connection — My meditation practice I think has lead me to an increased spiritual attunement and to a greater understanding of my sixth sense (intuition). I’ve always considered myself to be intuitive, but by being more in tune with myself, my intuition has deepened and my connection with myself has grown. There is something really special that happens when you are in the flow of meditation.cae5faf4e0ca26bde15d2da0fdd92257

  • Reduced Stress — Although I still get stressed out (who doesn’t?) I feel like it sometimes is better managed because of my meditating. I also love that one of the apps I use (Stop, Breathe & Think) has specific meditations for stress, anxiety…you name it! They make it so easy with meditations focused on certain feelings/emotions/topics.

Friends, meditation does wonders. I truly feel I would be lost without it. By no means am I perfect, but coming back to my practice day after day allows me to continue to work on myself, gain a deeper understanding and connection with myself and enjoy all the many glorious benefits of meditation.

I LOVE these images and quotes below. ❤❤❤

“The goal of meditation isn’t to control your thoughts, it’s to stop letting them control you.” —Unknown

Meditation is by far the best gift I could ever give myself and one that I will continue to give myself. Through my practice I have gained so much more than I ever thought possible.

As I approach milestones like this, I reflect on my journey and give thanks and gratitude to the person who got me started on this beautiful journey in the first place. Cassie, I can’t thank you enough for what you have given me. Thank you for showing me the way and for being such a wonderful friend and mentor. I love you dearly! ❤

My mediation practice is incredibly important to me and something I will continue to always work on. This next year I hope to deepen my practice and keep working on myself. Over the last three years I have already experienced so many positive benefits from meditating, but I know there is always more to gain. Cheers to three years of practicing and to another year of connecting with myself and deepening my practice!

Thanks as always for reading. Namaste! 💕 🙏 💕

Emma’s Adoptaversary 🐾💕

On this day in 2011 we picked out Miss Emma! Well…she actually PICKED ME. Can’t believe it’s been seven years since this pup came home with us. I honestly can’t remember life without her; she’s just precious. I’m not sure I’ve ever blogged about how we came to get Emma, so here you go.

The weekend before 2.5.11 I went to the Dog Show at the Cow Palace with my parents. We used to go often as kids and always loved looking at all the dogs, especially the giant schnauzers. That year I was actually on the hunt to find a westie, but after seeing them at the show, I wasn’t all that impressed. We of course staked out the schnauzers from Skansen’s and discovered they had white mini’s. I instantly fell in love with one of them and seriously wanted to take her home with me. The owner of the pup said “you can’t have her, but you can have her sister.” So of course the following weekend my parents and I drove all the way up to Sebastopol to “look” at this sister pup. One thing to keep in mind is that if you ever go to Skasen’s you are going to leave with a dog. No.Matter.What. And that’s pretty much what happened. I met both pups, but one of them pretty much took off running and we never saw her again. That girl was WILD. The other sweet girl stuck around and seemed to be pretty smitten with me. That was our girl Emma. She PICKED ME and the rest was history!

Here are a few pictures when we first met Emma and her wild sister.

Both of our pups are from Skansen Kennel in Sebastopol. If your looking for any size of schnauzer, Skansen’s is the place to go! they also have llama’s in case you need one of those. 😉

Here are few pictures from her first car ride leaving the ranch, meeting Cosmo (my childhood schnauzer — P.S. he LOVED Emma <3) and then a few with proud Mom and Dad!

Emma has filled a huge part of my heart that I didn’t even know was missing something. She has been with me through so much (personally) and has always made our family feel so special. Chris always jokes that I love Emma more than him [not true…exactly 😉 ], but I certainly feel a very special connection with her. Emma is the sweetest pup with the best personality ever. At times she super mellow, but is always up for an adventure. She loves walks along the beach or in the forest/mountains, napping on and off throughout the day, treats of all kinds, snuggling with her brother and fellow humans and always knows how to make you feel LOVED.

2.5.11 will always hold a special place in our heart.

We LOVE you EMMA! ❤ ❤ ❤
