Friday the 13th 👻👻

OH. MY. GOODNESS!!

T.G.I.F. AND Friday the 13th in OCTOBER…LOOK OUT!

Clearly I can’t keep calm because this is awesome! What a day it’s going to be. Ha Ha Ha. I feel like today should be embraced for both it’s potential awesomeness and spooky factor. How often do we have a Friday the 13th that falls in the month of October??? The answer is, not that often. The last time we had a Friday the 13th in October was in 2006. That was ELEVEN years ago people! Having a Friday the 13th happen in October than any other month is not only rare but a little spooky! Totally fits for the “spooky” month of October.

Now I don’t consider myself very superstitious, but I probably buy into things a little more than others. At the end of the day I love October, I love Halloween and will make any excuse to do something more spooky, especially today.

When I started looking into Friday the 13th stuff I found a few weird/interesting things:

  1. The superstition’s origins are mysterious — It’s unclear when Friday and number 13 became linked in the way we think of them today. Apparently there are no mentions of Friday the 13th before the 19th century…
  2. Fear of the day itself has an official name —  paraskevidekatriaphobia (yea I have no idea how to pronounce that)
  3. Many hospitals have no room 13, while airports don’t have a Gate 13. Hotels and skyscrapers also tend to dismiss the unlucky floor by skipping straight from 12 to 14. Ooooooh now that’s creepy!
  4. Lucky #13 —  There have been superstitions around the number 13 for hundreds of  years. But the number 13 isn’t bad luck to everyone. In some cultures it’s looked upon as a good luck number. So get a lottery ticket today!
  5. The King of Horror (old-time horror that is) — Alfred Hitchcock, was born on Aug. 13, 1899.
  6. Apollo 13 — Lots of 13’s here…Apollo 13 launched at 1:13 p.m. on April 11th with Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert and Fred Haise. That’s right: there are three 13s there (13:13 p.m. by military time). Hmmmm
  7. Today is Friday the 13th which means tomorrow is Saturday the 14th, which means WEEKEND!

I also found some great lists of things to do on Friday the 13th. Here are a few that we might even try out!

  1. I get a tattoo — apparently lots of shops do a Friday the 13th specials (this would be awesome!)
  2. Play with a Ouija board  — those things can be suuuuper creepy
  3. Have a scary movie marathon (totally happening!)
  4. Do something superstitious —  I love this list. What are some of your superstitions? Will you try your luck with any of them??
  5. Buy a lottery ticket — remember lucky #13
  6. Adopt a black cat

Friday the 13th is really what you make it. If you want to blow it off as just another calendar day, go for it. But, if you’re the type who thinks superstitions can be a little fun, or at the very least are looking for an excuse to stay home and watch a bunch of scary movies, make sure to relish Friday the 13th this year. I mean it’s finally occurring in October! Double win I think.

friday the 13th

So how do you plan to spending your Friday the 13th??? Wishing you all a spooky and lucky day. Have a great weekend!

Update: Anniversary Addition 💕👫💕

Happy Friday!

71b791fd98dab17de477e5a4a36584b1

Sorry it’s taken me all week to get this post up…it’s been a busy one.

Over the weekend and on Monday we celebrated our 7th Wedding Anniversary! Yay! 10.02.17 ❤ ❤ Hope you caught Monday’s post about it.

On Saturday we decided to not only go to Disneyland  but to also get SEASON PASSES!!!!! Ahhhh…YES! As you may know from this post and others, I love Halloween, but I’m also a huge Disney fan. We try to visit Disneyland as much as we can. One of the things on my fall bucket list (#14) was to see the Halloween decorations at Disneyland. Check! 471603924

This is the first year California Adventure has gotten into the Halloween spirit and decorated. Let me tell you, the decorations did not disappoint! The park was pretty crowded and since we knew we were getting passes we didn’t stress about going on all the rides. The main goal was to get passes and see all the Halloween decorations. Check out these sweet pictures below.

We also turned this trip and getting season passes into our anniversary/Christmas/both birthdays/every holiday you can think of presents! Ha Ha Ha. We even made a Disneyland COPPER penny to get that “copper” 7th anniversary theme in. 😉

Can’t wait to go back again soon!!! Yay for Disneyland and season passes!

For our actual anniversary, we decided to take the pups for a walk along the beach downtown and walk through Chase Palm Park where we got married seven years ago. It ended up being super sweet and rather romantic. We took a bunch of pictures and reminisced about our special day. There’s a fountain in the park that we got married in front of (well it used to be a fountain) so we sat down, took more pictures and ended up reading through our wedding vows. We both got pretty emotional when re-reading them. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever really re-read our vows and we certainly haven’t re-read them together. Awwww it was so very sweet. Seven years and we both still “I DO!” ❤

Like I mentioned before, since our first anniversary we’ve been following the “traditional” anniversary gifts. This has made each anniversary so much fun. The theme for this year was copper/wool (more details about that here).  As usual, my husband went above and beyond but I think this year might take the cake (at least so far). My wonderful husband LEARNED TO KNIT and knit me not one, but two WOOL SCARVES! Now who does that?!?!?! MY HUSBAND…mic drop!

The funny part about all of this is that I typically go for the funny/joke side of whatever the theme is and Chris always goes for the more romantic/sentimental route. I’m trying to pick up my game and over the years I really have ;). But, the whole point was for this to be fun and for it to not be about the gifts. This is true; the gifts make it fun, but it’s still about US and honoring/celebrating our anniversary. ❤

In terms of gifts, here’s what we’ve done so far:

  • Year 1 = Paper — I gave toilet paper (funny right?!). He gave me a leather bound journal with our wedding vows written throughout the pages. Chris wins.

  • Year 2 = Cotton — I gave him cotton scented candles. He gave me “cotton lingerie” as in the Fruit of the Loom socks/underwear/socks from Target. Funny Chris, very funny. He still wins.

  • Year 3 = Leather — I gave him a leather USC key chain. He gave me a handmade (from someone else) leather luggage tag and a leather bracelet with my favorite DMB quote engraved on it. Chris wins.

  • Year 5 = Wood — I gave him a “wood” cheese plate with a slate inlay with our names & wedding date engraved on it. He gave me/us a tree, a necklace with 5 interlocking rings for 5 years and a wooden card that said “I love you.” I think the playing field was a little more even this year…

  • Year 7= Copper/Wool — I gave him copper collar stays and a handmade wool bow tie. He gave me a penny from 2010 that says “I still Do” and learned to KNIT. And then of course he KNITTED me TWO scarves. I’m calling this one a TIE.

I know it’s not a competition on what we get each other for our anniversary, but I do feel incredibly lucky to have such a wonderfully romantic husband who loves and spoils me. Clearly I won the lottery with this guy! At the end of the day he knows I LOVE him more than anything and we have such funny stories from each anniversary. That wraps up our anniversary update.

Hope your week went well. It’s FINALLY Friday and the weekend is just hours away. Waaahooo. I’m excited because we’re headed to Colorado for a weeding! Enjoy friends

Happy October 🎃🍁🍂🍃🎃

HELLO OCTOBER!

October is by far my FAVORITE month out of the year! And here’s why:

 — Cooler weather (hopefully…Santa Barbara has pretty nice weather year round so we’ll see what happens)

— Leaves changing colors (we get a few in CA…do palm trees count?! 😉)

— The days getting shorter. Call me crazy, but I kind of like this! Just seems fitting for fall…

— PUMPKIN everything! Pumpkin patches, pumpkin decorations, pumpkins on your porch, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin seeds, pumpkin treats. ALL THINGS PUMPKIN! Trader Joe’s has quite the display of pumpkin stuff and it gets me EVERY. TIME. Can’t help myself but to buy something pumpkin related haha.🎃

— College football! Fall in our house is all about USC football. Fight On! Gooooooo USC!

— Cozy sweaters, hoodies, scarves, boots, etc. Fall clothes are the best.

— Our anniversary! Chris and I actually got married in Santa Barbara and are coming up on 7 years of marriage…of my goodness! This is the first time we will be in the same place where we got married. Looking forward to celebrating in the town we fell in love.  ❤10.02.10

— Getting cozy on the couch. Love to get snugly with a good book, a cup of tea and my pups (hubby too).

— The holidays. October essentially kicks off the holiday season and the gathering together of family and friends. Awww

— Lastly, I love October because Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday of all time!!!!! I live for all things Halloween. As a kid, Halloween was big in our family and still is today.  Yes, we have more Halloween/fall decorations than Christmas…that’s just the way it is he he he. Sorry hubby! Don’t worry, we are working on all Christmas collection I promise 😉 But, Halloween will always be big. Call me crazy, but I can’t decorate for Fall until October 1st. I know fall starts in September, but I can’t do it until we hit October. I think I need to next live somewhere where there really is fall. Maybe that would help me decorate earlier. Anyway, I can’t wait to get all of our Halloween/fall decorations out and decorate our house. This will be the first year decorating our new place in SB so that’s going to be fun. Halloween is coming friends, get excited!

Happy 1st day of October! Hope you all have a fantastic Sunday!

Fall Bucket List 🎃🍁🍂🍃🎃

fall bucket list

It may be cliché, but I really do love fall. Always have and always will. Every year I get that ‘fall feeling’ that makes me feel all warm and cozy inside. Kind of funny I guess since we live in CA and don’t really get “fall” like they do in other parts of the country. As a kid I always loved fall, especially Halloween (it was BIG in our house and still is). When fall comes around each year I feel a little nostalgic. It reminds me of how much I loved this time of year when I was younger. There’s really nothing better than a crisp morning, one that requires your favorite sweater or hoodie and warm drink in hand. I love the smells of pumpkin, cinnamon and just the general yumminess that comes with fall baking. I love a crackling fire (sadly we just have an electric fireplace), but I can imagine the crackling right?! I also love getting the crockpot out and making our favorite meals and trying new recipes. There is something that’s just so wonderful about fall that makes me love every part of it.

I’ve never really done a bucket list on the blog before. We always do things each fall, but figured this year I would try it out. So here’s our Fall Bucket List 2017:

  1. Go to the farmers market for fall vegetables, fruits and flowers
  2. Visit a pumpkin patch
  3. Decorate for fall/Halloween
  4. Carve pumpkins
  5. Read a book with a cozy blanket by the fire
  6. Bake a homemade pie
  7. Have a scary movie date night
  8. Try a new recipe in the slow cooker
  9. Watch Hocus Pocus (one of my favorite movies)
  10. Bake pumpkin chocolate chip bread
  11. Snuggle on the couch with the hubby and pups
  12. Wear dark nail polish and dress in layers (leggings, boots, sweaters and scarves)
  13. Take a walk outside in the crisp air
  14. Go to Disneyland to see all the Halloween decorations (both parks are decorated this year!)
  15. Listen to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons – Fall. (I used to listen to this CD when I was little as I  was going to bed…fell asleep almost instantly haha.)
  16. Take a trip/visit someplace that really embodies fall (I’m coming for you Colorado!)

What’s on your Fall Bucket List? Would love to get ideas to add to ours and for future lists! If you’re looking for ideas, I really, really love this list. I definitely want to add some of these to our list!

Thanks for reading and happy Monday!

Holiday Updates 🎄🎁🎉🍾

I’m back! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with family/friends and celebrated the New Year in style! Isn’t it just crazy how fast the holidays come and go…and now it’s 2017.

We’ve been traveling a lot over the holidays, hence my mini-break from the blog. Here’s a quick recap of our holidays:

12.23.16 On Friday I baked a ton of cookies during the day (since I had the day off-yes) and then we made a little Christmas dinner with a small meat roast from Trader Joe’s, potatoes and veggies. After dinner we went to the Sharks game! Love when Tof gets free tickets from his patients! Can’t pass up a game when free tickets are involved.

12.24.16 Since we were going to be with my family later in the day and then in the car on Christmas, we opened our present today! Tof made a big breakfast (waffles) and we enjoyed a relaxing morning drinking coffee and opening all our gifts. ❤

We spent Christmas Eve with my family; just the six of us (mom, dad, Ari, Brian & Tof) oh and 6 dogs! For dinner we had our traditional Christmas Eve meal, which consisted of ham, Grammis potatoes, sauerkraut and plenty of mulled wine. For dessert we ate a bunch of Christmas cookies and then opened presents from my parents and our Secret Santas.

Our family sure is growing with the addition of Ari and Brian’s dogs, Hazel and Muddy!

I think Hazel and Muddy are fitting in just fine! Love all these sweet pups! ❤

12.25.16 Christmas morning we got up bright an early (like 6am) and got in the car to head to Southern California for Christmas with Chris’s mom. We caught a beautiful Christmas sunrise that was just stunning! The roads were so quiet that early, so it made this sunrise even more majestic. What a great way to start Christmas! ❤

15747324_10105184414513587_1966091337497944793_n

On our way down via Highway-5, The Grapevine had SNOW! Last year there was also some snow, but this year there was a TON. So much snow that we just had to pull over and let the dogs check it out! Check these awesome pictures! Emma LOVED the snow, Dash was a little hesitant at first but also thought it was pretty cool And yes, that would be y hubby in SHORTS and SANDALS in the snow haha.

Looks like we’ve got SNOW!

Funny how those oh so white mini schnauzers don’t look so white in the snow haha. Can’t wait to take them to the snow again because they really loved it!

We got down to Huntington Beach in pretty good time (around noon) and spent the rest of the day just relaxing. Later we watched Sully (love Tom Hanks), had our usual Christmas dinner of prime rib (so good) and then opened presents. I missed my family, but loved being able to spend time with my other family :). We took lots of pictures and then headed to bed.

P.S. Best gift from my hubby…t-shirt from the best movie ever!! Good job!

12.26.16 On Monday we went to San Diego for the day to visit with Tof’s sister Kristen and our niblings! I can’t believe how big Colton (5), Kendall (3) and Madison (3) are! Such cuties and so grown up already. They are at a really fun age and just wanted to play, show us their rooms and spend some quality time with Auntie Risa and Uncle Chris. During our visit we also found out we will be aunt and uncle AGAIN in June because Kristen is pregnant with baby #4! ❤ ❤ ❤

So hard to get pictures of these kids because they are so active! Can’t believe come June there will be FOUR of them! So happy and excited for the growing Cline family! ❤

12.27-12.29 On our way back from SoCal we usually stop in SB in order to break up the drive home. It’s always great to spend a little time in SB and see old friends! Thanks to Eva for letting us stay with her.

We ❤ SB

12.31-1.1.17 On Saturday we headed to see our friends Jess and Dan in Oakdale, CA. I think this is our 4th NYE that we’ve spent together…par-tay people! In the past, we’ve gone to these big NYE party, but for the past two years there have been no parties. I think the guy who throws them is done. No problem for us; we create our own party!

After getting to Jess and Dan’s, we hung out for a little, had a yummy cheese/meat plate and then took our pups to the dog park! Those pups had a BLAST and loved running around/playing with each other! Check out these awesome pics! Such a great way to spend the last day of 2016.

After the dog park we played Spades (for hours), had a delicious fajitas dinner and played The Voting Game (which I won during my coworkers white elephant exchange) before the big countdown.

Couldn’t imagine ringing in the New Year with anyone else. Love these peeps so much and feel very grateful for their friendship! Hope you all had a wonderful NYE filled with friends, family and plenty of champagne.🍾 🍾

So that’s a wrap of all our holiday celebrations! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and I will you a fabulous New Year! All best for 2017!!

Holiday Traditions: Christmas Lights

Happy Tuesday everyone!

Completed another one of our holiday traditions over the weekend…looking at CHRISTMAS LIGHTS!!!

Looking at Christmas lights is something that I’ve been doing since I was a little kid. It became a tradition in my family growing up and now I’m doing it with my own little family schnauzers included! Last year I didn’t really blog about looking at lights because just the hubby and I went. I got a really nasty cold, so we had to cancel with our friends. But, you can read all about 2014 and 2013.

On Saturday 12.17.16 we got together with some friends and had dinner at Willow Street Pizza before looking at Christmas lights over in Willow Glen. I seriously LOVE all of the decorations in the Willow Glen area!  So totally charming! And the story behind it is even better! Just a little refresher, each house is given a small Christmas tree to put on their front yard to decorate. You can read more about the history of the Willow Glen Yard Trees, truly a lovely story. Seeing each house with a charming little tree on the front lawn in addition to whatever other decorations people put up is just magical.

The following pictures don’t even do this place justice! It is always so beautiful and so much fun. It was pretty cold Saturday night, so there weren’t as many people out there. Perfect for the four of us and our three dogs! I love that people get so into it and everything looks so festive!

Each street has a “theme”…this one had these adorable lighted Christmas trees you walk under. Too cute!

There is also a huge sleigh and this GIANT reindeer that are “pulling” the sleigh…this takes up lawns of multiple houses and looks super cool when you look down the street!

If anyone is still looking for places to look at holiday lights I highly recommend the Willow Glen area. Here is a map of the charming holiday lights. We will probably be taking a stroll or drive down Eucalyptus in San Carlos Christmas Eve with my family. CAN’T WAIT to see even more Christmas lights!

I’ve mentioned this before…but one of my goals/DREAM is to someday live on a street like the ones in Willow Glen or Eucalyptus in San Carlos. It would be just so much fun to go all out for the holidays. Someday…😀

Only FIVE more sleeps til Christmas and only TWO more days of work until break! Oh my goodness…so excited!
